ACADEMICS

At McIntosh Area School, we are committed to providing a balanced, engaging, and rigorous educational experience for every student. Our academic foundation is built on the Savvas Learning curriculum, a comprehensive, research-based program used across all grade levels. Savvas offers clear learning progressions, rich instructional resources, and opportunities for differentiated support, allowing students to grow confidently in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies.

To promote student wellness and focus, our daily schedule includes a 10-minute Sun & Snack Break, giving students time to recharge and reset. In addition, students enjoy daily recess, offering structured and unstructured play that supports social development, physical activity, and emotional regulation.

Together, these programs support the whole child—academically, socially, and creatively—within the warm, close-knit environment that makes McIntosh Area School unique. Our goal is to ensure every student feels supported, challenged, and empowered to reach their fullest potential.

Math

Math instruction at MAS focuses on deep understanding, problem-solving, and real-world application. Using Savvas, students build strong number sense, learn multiple strategies, and progress through increasingly complex concepts with hands-on practice. Our goal is to help students become confident, flexible thinkers who understand both the “how” and the “why” of math.

Language Arts

Our ELA program uses the Savvas curriculum to build strong readers, writers, and communicators through structured, evidence-based instruction. Students engage with rich texts, develop vocabulary and comprehension, and practice writing across genres. Small-group support and differentiated lessons ensure every learner grows with confidence.

Art & Music

Our Art and Music programs give students meaningful opportunities to explore creativity, imagination, and self-expression. In Art, students experiment with drawing, painting, mixed media, and hands-on projects that build technique and confidence. In Music, students learn rhythm, singing, instruments, and musical concepts through activities that make performing and creating fun, helping them develop appreciation for the arts as a whole.
